The CIOC carrier is mounted to the top of a vertical DIN rail and up to eight CHARM Baseplates are mounted below it, snapping easily to the DIN rail as they are connected to each other. The bus termination assembly is attached at the bottom. A standard DIN-rail lock is used to keep the entire assembly in place.A pair of CIOCs installs on the carrier and communicates over a redundant Ethernet network with up to four controllers, allowing great ffexibility and ease of system expansion. Communication modules are available for copper and ffberoptic media.Each baseplate is ordered with 12 terminal blocks: standard terminal blocks, fused injected power terminal blocks, or relay output terminal blocks.Each CHARM acts as a circuit protection device and ffeld wiring disconnect. Signals are inherently current-limited to protect against wiring faults to ground. Each CHARM provides surge protection to meet industry standards in the area of EMC. Under extreme overvoltage conditions due to incorrect ffeld wiring, the CHARM will act as a fuse to protect adjacent channels. Signal faults are thus isolated to the single CHARM.

Called “purpose-built” commercial components, these switches combine the lower cost of off-the-shelf components with DeltaV speciffc software and features to make them more integrated and plug-and-play in the DeltaV Area Control Network (ACN) and other DeltaV networks external to the ACN.DeltaV Smart Switches require no conffguration to function in the DeltaV networks. Accessing the advanced features takes only minor conffguration that is easy to perform using the DeltaV Network Device Command Center and secured so you can’t incorrectly conffgure any switching functions that impact the performance of the DeltaV system.This purpose-built switch allows the DeltaV system to provide an auto port lockdown advanced security feature that is easy for a control system user to implement: an increasingly important product feature in today’s hostile environment. The DeltaV Smart Switches are also pre-conffgured to detect certain man-in-the-middle attacks using features included in the latest ffrmware versions such as: ARP spooffng detection and enhanced port lockdown algorithms.
